History of Mission Support Network
Mission Support Aviation began in the mind of Trevor
Robinson shortly after he returned to Australia after serving
as Chief Pilot for Adventist Aviation in the 90s. The
best way to see how the idea developed is to go to the
newsletter archives on this site and read through them.
Start here...
In July of 2006 we were able to lease an airplane and get
started with our ministry. Our first operations were based in
Goroka at the Adventist Aviation hangar. Things were going well
until issues came up regarding the registration of the
aircraft. The leasing company was not willing to have the craft
registered in PNG but the PNG government was requiring that it
be registered in the country.
Progress was being made towards the resolution of this
challenge but it was slow going and the owner of the aircraft
was unable to have the plane sitting on the ground as it needed
to earn its own keep. For this reason it became necessary
in February of 2007 to return it to the owner in Australia and
we began looking for another aircraft.
God blessed us with the very airplane that served PNG for
Adventist Aviation for so many years. This craft was
painstakingly rebuilt by Noel Goltz and he kindly allowed us to
repurchase it for the work in PNG. At this time the Cessna 206
affectionately knows as "Charlie" to many Adventist Aviators is
being readied for service in PNG again. The required work
includes updating the engine and adding new legs and flint wing
extension tanks.
We will be basing our operations in Vanimo, PNG in the
Northwest corner of the country. This delightful coastal town
is the perfect jumping off place to reach into the interior of
the vast Sepik River plains where service of this kind has been
virtually non existent.
Currently, as of May of 2009 we are hoping for a re-launch
with full operations before the end of 2009. Jack and
Elana are preparing for a move to Vanimo in
November. Trevor and Lorretta are also making similar
plans.
We covet your prayers as this history page develops over the
next few years.
