Mission Support Network

Hello Friends,                       January 23, 2007

It has been over a month since I updated you on what's happening with Mission Support Aviation.  I left you with a prayer request regarding the issue with the Department of Transportation regarding aircraft registration.  Trevor was in Madang at the time getting the 100 hour maintenance done.  While there he was able to get in touch with the DOT and talk with the right person and things have slowly been coming around.  I have copied a few of Trevor's notes to me over the past month below.

Also, as you can see, we have updated the website at www.MissionSupportNetwork.com  I still have a bunch of work to do but much of it will be worked on while I am in PNG with Trevor.  I am leaving in 16 days and plan to spend 10 weeks with him before returning for a few months to the states.

Keep us in your prayers!   ... Jack Sample

Hi Jack,
Its Sunday.  I am at work and the computer is free so am emailing you.  Went
out to Maimafu fopr the weekend. Had Lords supper and really enjoyed the
weekend.  I am off to Madang tomorrow for the 100 hourly inspection. So will
be off email most of the week.

No it is not NAS that wants the plane on the PNG regisiter.  It is the
Department of Transport.  I have written a letter to them and am waiting for a
reply. Hopefully they will understand the situation and help.  If not there
are some other possibilities that we are working on.  There is another
aircraft that could become available.  A friend of Simons owns it and it is on
the PNG register. He has spoken to him and the guy is going to ring me about
it.  If we did that, then Simons plane would go back to Australia to a place
where he knows there is work for it and then when it is paid for in 12 months
or so, It may be available to come back as our second plane.

I agree with you. The Lord is over all and will help work things out for His
glory.

Praise the Lord. I was able to contact Mr. William Vate at the department of
Transport yesterday morning and he has re- considered our request to extend
our aircraft's use in PNG.  He is recommending to his superiors that we be
granted an extension of 6 months and then we can export it and apply for
reimportation.  I think that re importation will not be a problem if we
continue to send him reports of our mission work.  He was interested in the
report I sent him and reconsidered his position based on the Christian help
work we do. And I guess the Holy Spirit was working on his heart too.  I know
countless prayers have gone up over this issue and we can now see some
glimmers of light coming from the other end of the tunnel.  He is telling me
that we should have a letter from him by Tuesday this coming week. Then the
Civil Aviation Authority needs to grant us an extension as well. They have
told us that this is easy and a formality once they get the letter from the
Dept of Transport.

It could still take time because they are short staffed at the moment.  So it
looks like we are going to be able to operate Echo up in Vanimo after all.  It
should take 12 to 18 months to finish paying for the aircraft if we do
reasonably good hours. That would put the finishing of the finance occurring
around the same time as the second 12 month limit for Echo's use in PNG.  Simon
says he will be happy to put the aircraft on the PNG register when the finance
is complete.

So it looks like we may be able to head to Vanimo some time in the next couple
of weeks or so. I have to wait until the paper work is finished in Moresby,
then I have to take the plane down there and do some induction work with NAS.
We also have to fax the CAA paper work to Garamut as evidence of the
legitimacy of our operation so that we can finalize lease arrangements on the
hangar and house.

The Director of Mission for the SPD is very keen for me to be at mission
institute at Avondale this coming Sabbath too so that I can tell some stories
to new people going out. Phew.  I hope I can fit that in too.  I so much long
to see the family again.

January 16, 2007

Hi Jack,

I am down with the family for a few days in Australia.  The department of transport is promising both urgently needed letters by this Friday.  I am booked to travel back to PNG on the 22nd so will give them a ring first thing next day if nothing has come through on the fax.

I feel for Simon. It looks like he will get very little income this month.  That is tough as it costs him a  lot each month to make the repayments on the plane and the insurance plus other costs as well.  We need to pray that the way will open soon to get all this paper work done so that we can start to operate again.

Hope things are going well there with the wedding plans and other things you guys are working on.

Hi jack,

The new face of the website looks great!  Thanks for the hard work.  Got back to PNG on Monday.  I have been chasing the Dept of Transport over the last 2 days again.  The letter for the extension beyond 26th is done and is sitting on the desk of the official who has to sign it.  We need to pray that he gets to it soon. It then needs to go to the CAA so that they can add the aircraft to the ops spec of NAS. Then I can finalize hangar and house at Vanimo and go to Moresby and do the orientation with the plane with NAS.

The phone is going again.  So am back on email here.  I really enjoyed the short time I had with family back home.  My granddaughters are so cute.  The 3 month old one is already trying to push herself up on her knees and trying to wave and copy her sister in a lot of ways.

I talked to Simon today.  He is ok about the aircraft having not earned much this month and knows that it is not due to lack of effort on our part. He believes we are going to get plenty of work when it gets to Vanimo.  He is already planning his next trip up. He is bringing his father in law.  They are going to do some work on the small areas of surface corrosion that are coming out on the skin of the aircraft.  I bought a tool set and some drills while in Aus.  He is going to gradually start building up an inventory of tools to bring up each time he comes with a view to starting our own engineering at some point when we have the people and the quantity of engineering work needed for this to be viable.  If we can get a second aircraft and a pilot engineer, that would be a good time.  We will be vulnerable out there with no engineer for hundreds of miles.

Wow 16 days. Yea I do hope we get all the paper work done by then.  God's timing is better than ours so lets pray that it all works out as He needs it to.

God is so good. I know He will open the doors in front of us in accordance with His perfect timing.

God bless
Regards
Trevor
